Retinal Disorders

Common retinal disorders include:

Macular Hole
Macular Pucker
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Defined Retinal Detachment
Floaters
Retinitis Pigmentosa
Uveitis
Diabetic Retinopathy
Retinal Artery and Vein Occlusion
Central Retinal Artery and Vein Occlusions
Retinopathy of Prematurity
Vitreous Detachment

For details regarding these conditions, please visit the National Eye Institute website.

Diagnosis of such diseases often requires highly technical equipment and testing, as well as a particularly thorough eye examination. Vitreoretinal surgical procedures are especially exacting and delicate. Most of the surgeries require use of a microscope. A vitreoretinal surgeon works on extremely delicate tissues in an incredibly small area. Various types of lasers are a vital part of the armamentarium of the Retina Specialist.

Some of the surgeries we may perform include:

  • Injections of medications for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (also knows as macular degeneration or ARMD), retinal manifestations of diabetes, retinal vein occlusions and other diseases
  • Laser treatments for age-related macular degeneration, retinal manifestations of diabetes, retinal vein occlusions, retinal tears and holes and thinning
  • Photodynamic therapy for age-related macular degeneration
  • Retinal detachment surgery
  • Vitrectomy for hemorrhages
  • Vitrectomy for macular pucker
  • Vitrectomy for macular hole
  • Vitrectomy to correct complications of earlier cataract surgery
